Possible reasons for the use of interrupted taps in YSA tapping power heads

2022-4-9

There are many reasons for tap breakage during tapping power head processing, and there are different reasons for different operating conditions.

Since tapping is different from drilling in the processing process, it will be affected by more factors. Therefore, when selecting BENTAX power head for tapping processing, the machine must be well adjusted before batch processing.

1. Improper operation. When processing blind hole threads, when the tap is about to touch the bottom of the hole, the operator does not realize that the tap is still fed at the tapping speed before reaching the bottom of the hole, or the tap is broken due to forced feeding when the chip removal is not smooth. It is recommended that operators strengthen their sense of responsibility.

2. The diameter of the bottom hole does not match the tap. For example, when processing M5×0.5 threads of ferrous metal materials, the cutting tap should be drilled with a 4.5mm diameter drill to drill the bottom hole. If a 4.2mm drill is used to drill the bottom hole by mistake, the part that the tap needs to cut during tapping will inevitably increase. , and then break the tap. It is recommended to select the correct diameter of the bottom hole according to the type of tap and the material of the tapping part. If there is no fully matching drill bit, you can choose a larger one.

3. The speed is too fast, resulting in excessive torque. Each type of tapping power head has a speed range, which cannot exceed the rated maximum speed of the tapping power head.

4. The material of the tapping parts. The material of the tapping part is impure, and there are local hard points or pores, which cause the tap to lose its balance and break instantly.

5. During the tapping alignment, the deviation of the tap from the center of the bottom hole is too large, that is, the axis of the tap is not concentric with the center line of the bottom hole, which is likely to cause excessive deflection during the tapping process, which is the cause of the tap breaking main reason.

6. Cutting fluid is not used or improperly selected. A large amount of heat will be generated during the tapping process, especially some non-ferrous metals have strong ductility, so it is necessary to select a good cutting fluid.

7. Improper tapping steps. When tapping high-hardness tapping parts or deep holes, multiple progressive processing can be adopted, which can effectively reduce the rate of tool breakage.
